Greetings,
After serving as admin for a couple years, I've decided to step down. I don't want to leave Max in the lurch, so I thought I'd troll about and see if anybody else wants to take over my role.

| Hello Seattle community!!! We need an admin for WhiteHeat! Right now no new users are able to join and post, so if we want to rejuvenate this forum, one or two people need to step up and volunteer to take on the admin role. Contact Thane for details! |

I wonder if getting the word out to some people that don't even know about the board might be an interesting way for people peripheral to the scene to get involved.
Peter F.: Do your students know about this board? Would they be interested in participating?
Gina: Can SSC instructors mention in your next class series?
Claire/UW Swing Kids: Would any of your members be interested?
Moderating this forum is a good way to get to know a lot of people in the scene - if not 'intimately' at least know who they are... _________________ Savoy Swing Jam ~ March 2011

For anybody who is considering taking this up - one of the reasons I "retired" (besides being insanely busy) was that the administration console does not make user management easy, and that there was a high volume of spam-oriented users. We're running an older version of phpBB (2.0.21, I think) and there's a newer version (3.0.6) that both improves user management and gives options that would allow us to cut down on the number of incoming spammers.
I'll be working with Brett sometime in February (I figure my New Year's hangover will have worn off by then) to get the site upgraded to 3.0.6, and while I'm doing that I'll see what I can do about bulk whacking the rough backlog of about 1000 users - the vast majority of which are spammers. I figure the whole process will take a weekend. |
