| I've heard rumors that the Seattle Balboa Swing Festival is canceled for 2010. I'm just looking for someone to verify that it. |

it is not happening over valentine's weekend.
We are working on rescheduling it, and are looking at the fall. Details to come. |

Who is "we"? There has not yet been any discussion yet on rescheduling this beyond recognizing the necessity of doing so. Please drop me a line at Gavin {at} CenturyBallroom {dot} com. Various folks have expressed interest in helping organize the next event. If you'd like to help I'd love to hear from you so we can have everyone on the same page.

For those that haven't heard the full story, we had instructors lined up and were moving forward with BalFest '10, which would have happened last weekend. After we had things rolling another event was announced in Europe for the same weekend. Normally, an event so far away is not a problem except for one small problem: our instructors switched to it, and since it was so large an event, any instructors we would have wanted to use instead were either already involved or likely to be.
At the same time Peter & Mia, much of the driving force behind the event these last couple years, were leaving town. While I'm sure they would have continued to be involved (the truth is, they travel so much, their main involvement was already through email), it added to the sense that we should put BalFest on "pause" and regroup.
I've heard from a couple people who were interested in stepping up and helping with the next BalFest, though not nearly as many as I would have expected (or hoped). I spoke with Hallie recently, and she has decided to not go forward with a full on BalFest like we've done before. There's continuing talk about doing smaller events more often rather than one big annual event. As always, we welcome any input. No comments or suggestions are inconsequential. And if you want to help build future Bal events, I'd still love to hear from you too. Everyone is useful from lackey on up to organizers.

Balboa is a great dance and has many fans in Seattle, and I think it would be unfortunate not to have an opportunity to bring in great teachers and excite dancers new to balboa.
BalFest was run by individuals before it was turned over to the Century, and had success with a modestly sized event, so hopefully some other group or persons will be willing to take a chance on throwing their own balboa festival in Seattle in the future. |

| I'm very interested in helping with future Balfests. I got my Bal start at last year's event. I know that Jo is getting an event together for Labor Day Weekend (http://campbalboaseattle.com) and there's a smaller event (Vancouver Balboa Weekend) happening in Vancouver the weekend after Camp Jitterbug that'll have Mickey and Kelly. |

| I'd say two good balboa weekends in the NW is pretty good. There are also great bands in Portland to dance balboa to. |

Since you plan on this being an annual event Jo, you should have this event added to the forum event list so people can access it easily. Not sure who you talk to about that. _________________

I think it's awesome. Jo Ann has been wanting to put on a Balboa event in Seattle for years but didn't want to step on anyone's toes...now that it isn't happening this year, she stepped up. I'm so excited about this...Jo Ann has been assisting me with CJ for years and she is an INCREDIBLE event organizer. I think this will be a top notch event that is done right. The organizer of the event makes a BIG difference on the quality and execution of it. This is a very positive thing for Seattle and the Balboa swing scene.
